Although nowadays it is common to read the press online, print media also has its readers. The Periodicals Reading Room has 8 workstations installed for reading it. Here you will find daily and weekly newspapers and current year magazines, and if you prefer to read publications from other years, please contact an employee.
Employees are ready to help you find the required information, provide consultations on the use of databases subscribed to by the library and on inqueries. In the databases that you can use at the library you will find electronic books, scientific articles, conference presentations, standards, statistical, analytical, and other information required for science and studies.
Next to it, you see the Training Classroom, equipped with computers for training. In this classroom, we kindly offer a diversity of training workshops for groups of visitors—contact courses on media and information literacy, and computer literacy topics. The workshops are free of charge, and the classroom can accommodate 10 participants. Here, consultations are also provided on topics relevant to residents, for instance, how to safely use Facebook, how to register with a doctor, or how to use e-government services. To participate in the training, a separate registration is needed. For gymnasium students, information search and database presentation lessons are offered.
The training classroom can be rented.
On the first floor, exhibitions of publications from the library’s collections prepared by the personnel are exhibited on a plenitude of topics: art albums, dedicated to the anniversaries of personalities, and books for leisure reading.
The library constantly organizes a broad range of cultural events: meetings with creators, writers, presentations of their works, exhibitions of art, documents, and publications, concerts, film screenings, and educational activities. One of the key activities is the traditional scientific documentary conferences on cultural and heritage research organized in cooperation with partners, and other traditional events: the awards of the young creators’ opportunities platform “Nevėžis”, the Elena Mezginaitė Lithuanian high school students’ song poetry festival-competition “My Old Friend…”, Museum Night, and the festival “Poetry Spring”. By visiting them, people expand their horizons, meet captivating individuals, and develop creativity. Many of the events organized by the library are free, thus, it is a great way to spend time meaningfully.
Have you noticed ceramic works in numerous library spaces? This is a permanent exhibition “Skambanti keramika” (Resounding Ceramics) from the unique collection of the international ceramics’ symposiums of the Panevėžys City Art Gallery. Numerous library spaces are decorated with paintings—this is a gift to the library from the artist Emilija Gaspariūnaitė-Taločkienė, a native of the region and a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association.
Return back to the Registration Desk and go down to the basement, where you will find the Subject Literature Collections, labeled – ABONEMENTAS.
