We are on the 1 st floor of the building at Respublikos St. 14. In the original version, the lobby was decorated with columns and arched passages to the staircase. It is believed that there was a stove in the adjacent premises. This was the first building in Panevėžys to have some utilities—water supply, central heating, and sewerage.
Right after entering the library, you are welcomed by the Registration and Information Desk. Here you can find out about all services rendered by us, register, and get a reader’s card. In addition, there is a wireless wifi throughout the library—for connection, please contact the personnel.
To the left side of the Registration Desk, you will find the Lending Department, labeled – IŠDAVIMAS.
Here you can pick up books from all library departments, either selected independently or ordered online through ibiblioteka. There are self-service machines: you can pick up or return a publication on your own. You can also print or copy in black and white independently. Here you can also see an exhibition space where exhibitions of rare books and manuscripts from the library’s collection, other institutions, or private collections are held.
At the Lending Department, you will find a collection of fiction by Lithuanian and foreign authors. There is also fiction for children and youth in Ukrainian. Here you can independently select books or ask a librarian. Publications in foreign languages are available on the 3 rd floor, in the Knowledge Space.
To the right behind the Registration Desk—an individual workstation for disabled persons.
All citizens of Lithuania and foreign states can become library readers. You can find, order, reserve, or extend the return period of desired publications on the website ibiblioteka.lt. You can also receive these services by notifying the library by e-mail, phone, or by visiting the library. Publications (30 copies) are issued for a period of one month. If you do not manage to return a book within this period and if another reader is not waiting for the book, you can extend the usage time. If you need a book that is currently being read, you can book it. A reserved book must be picked up within 3 working days. If you fail to do this, the system will transfer the publication to the next reader in line. To pick up or return a publication independently, you can use the self-service machines: you just need to scan the book and the reader’s card codes. The librarian will always provide assistance.
During non-working hours of the library, you can return publications to the book return box, which is located outside, to the left side of the main entrance. In the library, you can scan and copy documents on your own or with the help of an employee. In the Main Reading Room, you can scan, print, and copy in colour. In the Lending Department, printing and copying is available only in black and white. A self-service scanning machine is located on the 2 nd floor in the Local History Reading Room of Elžbieta Jodinskaitė. If you want to use the library just once, e.i. to copy, find information on the Internet, or see an exhibition, then a reader’s card is not required. However, it is advisable to acquire a free permanent reader’s card. It is valid in all public libraries in Lithuania for as many years as you visit. The library is accessible online 24/7. Visit our website www.pavb.lt. Here and on the library’s Facebook page, you will find information about the library’s activities, services, and news. On the first floor, near the entrance, you can see a book swapping spot. Here, readers bring books they donate to others and take those that interest them. With this initiative, we encourage book exchanges and give readers the opportunity to share books. At the Registration Desk, you can buy books and postcards published by the library.
