So, let’s start at the very beginning.
The library has been operating for more than 100 years and it is an institution that gave rise to state libraries in Panevėžys. Elžbieta Jodinskaitė, the first director of the library, wrote in 1922: “The Central Bookshop Department in Panevėžys officially started its activities on 01 December 1921.” Since opening its doors to visitors until today, the library has been a crucial cultural hub in the city and the region.
The history of the library is long-standing, and its mission is meaningful both in the Panevėžys County and in the North-Eastern Lithuanian region. It is one of the major cultural institutions in the region, having accumulated the largest and most diverse library collection. Here, we respect traditions, flexibly seeking rich relationships with each of you, we are open for new ideas and are professionals in our field who create progress and value for the community.
Thus, we kindly invite you to a closer acquaintance.
Firstly, leave the library throught the main doors and look at the building from the outside.
