The department aims to collect, systematize, document, research and publicize collections of the national cultural heritage and information about Panevėžys region and its fellow-countrymen, accumulate collections, meet the information needs of Panevėžys region users, to provide methodological assistance to the libraries of municipalities and schools (except higher education institutions) of  Panevėžys region.
