The library is continuing the project “NEVĖŽIS, the Young Creators’ Platform for Opportunities” (lt. Jaunųjų kūrėjų galimybių tribūna NEVĖŽIS). This year the event will be held for the 7th time. The project is aimed at promoting young artists and is organised as an opportunity to recognise the teachers who advocate them.

Project proceedings

The project continues throughout the year and invites school students from Panevėžys region to participate. Each month, after participants submit their work, a special column in the local newspaper is set to feature their latest writings and illustrations. Then, the most exceptional pieces are selected by a jury and published in a special almanac. The almanac is presented at the closing event of the project, which takes place in the library at the beginning of the following year.

“The motive behind the idea to organise this project is simple – we seek to encourage young people to become creators, even if they are not trying to pursue careers of professional writers or illustrators.”

– Arnoldas Simėnas, project organiser.

What to expect in 2020

The project continues to expand and welcomes new forms of creative expression. In the past, poetry, prose, drama pieces, drawings and paintings were featured as the main works. This year, the format expanded even more and highlights photographs and translations.

This year, the Writer and the Illustrator of the Year were selected from a record number of participants, 100 young writers and 49 illustrators. A total of 39 teachers were participating as advocates for young artists. The laureates will be honoured with a special prize created by sculptor Vytautas Tallat-Kelpša.

You are welcome to come and support young artists! Join the event on Facebook.
